About the event

At the forums, the Department of the Premier and Cabinet and the Department of Communities would like to discuss your views on State Government priorities impacting Aboriginal people and communities, including a strategy for Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations to 2022.

Please RSVP here to register your/your organisation’s details.

The Coalition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peak Organisations (Coalition of Peaks) formed in 2018 to be formal partners with Australian governments to work on the future of Closing the Gap. The Coalition of Peaks is made up of about 40 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) Community Controlled Organisations from every state and territory, and national organisations.

The Coalition of Peaks, with Australian governments – federal, state/territory and local – want to talk to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) representatives of communities and organisations about a new National Agreement on Closing the Gap being developed. The National Agreement will set out how Australian governments and the Coalition of Peaks will work together over the next ten years on closing the gap in life outcomes for ATSI people.

We [the WA Government] want to hear your ideas on what is needed to make real change in your life. We need to talk to enough people, in different parts of Australia, to make sure we’re on the right track and have support to finalise the new National Agreement on Closing the Gap with governments.

The meeting will be attended by Coalition of Peaks members, WA State Government officials, and a Commonwealth official from the National Indigenous Australians Agency.

Some of you may have attended government led meetings about Closing the Gap targets in 2017 and 2018. This time the Coalition of Peaks are leading the discussion and we are now also talking about some important changes that we think needs to happen to improve our lives faster.

Before you attend the forum, you can read a discussion booklet that has more background information on Closing the Gap and sets out what will be talked about at the meeting. You can also look at an illustrated story of what the meeting will be about. If you, or people you know cannot make it, you can still have your say during this time through an online survey. A Closing the Gap Forum Agenda will be emailed to registered attendees beforehand.

If you require any assistance, please email the Aboriginal Policy and Coordination Unit (Department of the Premier and Cabinet), which is supporting this event, at AboriginalPolicy@dpc.wa.gov.au
